Des Moines Bail Bonds

Polk County

2155 NE 51st Pl Suite A, Des Moines, IA 50313

The Closest Bondsman to the Polk County Jail.

In Des Moines, location is everything. When you are racing against the clock to get a loved one released, you don’t want to be stuck in traffic on I-235. Lederman Bail Bonds is located at 2155 NE 51st Place, Suite A—directly across the street from the Polk County Jail intake center.

While other agencies might operate out of downtown offices or virtual call centers, we are situated right where the release happens. You can see the jail from our front door. This proximity allows us to post bonds faster than anyone else in the metro area, serving Des Moines, Ankeny, West Des Moines, and Urbandale with unmatched speed.

Navigating the Polk County Jail System

The Polk County legal system can be confusing because the Jail and the Courthouse are miles apart.

The Jail (Intake & Release): Most arrestees in the metro area (Des Moines PD, Polk County Sheriff, Ankeny PD) are transported to the Polk County Jail at 1985 NE 51st Place. This facility is located on the north side of Des Moines, near the Ankeny border.

  • The Intake Process: Booking takes time. The facility is large and processes a high volume of inmates. However, because our office is literally next door, we can monitor the process in real-time.

  • The “Initial Appearance”: If a bond isn’t pre-set, the inmate must appear before a judge. In Polk County, these hearings (often called “Courtroom 1” hearings) usually happen within 24 hours.

  • Pro Tip: Do not drive downtown to pick someone up! Releases happen at the NE 51st Place facility. Wait in our comfortable office across the street rather than sitting in your car in the jail parking lot.

The Courts (Hearings & Trials): While the jail is north, the legal battles happen downtown.

  • Criminal Courts Building: 110 6th Avenue (Adult criminal proceedings).

  • Polk County Justice Center: 222 5th Avenue (Traffic, Juvenile, Simple Misdemeanors).

  • Historic Courthouse: 500 Mulberry Street (Civil matters).

Where to Park for Downtown Court Dates

If you have a hearing at the downtown complex (Justice Center or Criminal Courts), parking is a major stress factor. The courts are located in the heart of downtown Des Moines, where street parking is scarce and strictly enforced.

  • Avoid the Meters: We strongly recommend avoiding street meters. Court dockets in Polk County are unpredictable. If your 9:00 AM hearing gets pushed to 11:30 AM, you cannot leave the courtroom to feed a meter.

  • Best Bet: 5th & Keo Garage: The parking ramp at 5th Avenue and Keosauqua Way is often the easiest option. It connects via skywalk to the Iowa Events Center and is a short walk to the Justice Center.

  • 4th & Grand Garage: Located at 401 Grand Avenue, this ramp is very close to the Criminal Courts Building and offers reliable hourly rates.

  • Navigating the Skywalk: If it’s winter, use the Des Moines Skywalk system. You can park in a ramp and walk indoors almost all the way to the courthouse, though you will have to exit to street level to enter the secure court buildings.
